The gameplay is different though, and is closer to a more traditional turn based JRPG like Dragon Quest. It chronicles the adventures of the wandering swordsman Rance and his traveling companion/slave girl Sill Plain as they journey across the Tenma Bridge to the distant country of JAPAN (yes, it's capitalized for a reason).
#SENGOKU RANCE VNDB SERIES#
This is by far the most well known of the entire series, and was many people’s first visual novel. Sengoku Rance is a Turn-Based Strategy game created by Alice Soft and is the seventh installment in the long-running Rance series (the first was released in 1989). I also have played it and quite enjoyed it. It was a smart move by MangaGamer to provide a special edition package for Sengoku Rance. TL DR: While I felt that Sengoku had more replayability and depth to it compared to Eiyuu, I still personally quite enjoyed Eiyuu, and actually enjoyed certain things about it more than Sengoku (like there being a lot less frustrating RNG).Īnother popular game from Alicesoft that is translated is Evenicle. You can recruit everyone, and you don’t have to go through things like, “so you want to recruit this character, huh? Well I hope you did all the events for this other character THAT IS COMPLETELY UNRELATED TO THE CHARACTER IN QUESTION, and that you did them before a certain point in the game, otherwise you’re SOL.” While things may change if you attack certain enemies before others in Sengoku, not much really changes in Eiyuu outside of giving you the option to raise the difficulty of other countries.Įiyuu only has 2 endings, and which ending you get only depends on, “did you conquer all the other countries before conquering 1 specific country?”Įiyuu also doesn’t have a cap when it comes to recruiting commanders. Eiyuu has less RNG and variance when it comes to gameplay and attacking enemy territories. I found the story to be better in Sengoku, but still enjoyed Eiyuu’s. I found Eiyuu to be a bit more straight forward, and easier, but there are ways to make things more difficult if you so choose. Instead of taking place in Japan, Eiyuu has you trying to conquer the world. Rance, after saving the nation of Zeth from destruction, ran away so he won't. Sengoku Rance picks up where Rance 6 left off.
Synopsis: The story takes place during the 4th Sengoku (warring states) era of Japan, an area of the Rance World which parodies medieval real-world Japan. If you liked the gameplay of one, then there’s a really good chance you’ll like the other cause it’s basically the same gameplay loop. It is the 15th most popular visual novel on VNDB as of May, 2015. So I’ve played both Sengoku Rance and Eiyuu Senki, and I’ve always thought of Eiyuu as a less rapey “Sengoku Rance-lite.” The gameplay is incredibly similar to Sengoku.
